Saltney Methodist Church
Bible Book Club
Our church runs a regular book club which is open to anyone in the Saltney community and surrounding area.
We meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 7.30 p.m. in our church lounge and our discussion lasts until 8.30 p.m. Coffee is available from 7.15 p.m. prior to the meeting. We don't meet in the month of December or August.
Our choice of book is linked to the bible and we decide on the books in advance so we have chance to read them. If we choose a bible book we usually focus on the whole book and look at general themes and key aspects. Our discussions are quite informal and we all respect each other's views and comments. We sometimes use Bible Society support materials as part of our discussion but we are not restricted to then.
Sometimes we choose a fictional book which is related to the bible. These are books which imaginatively portray particular characters and periods from the bible. We have also chosen books which are written by Christians who are exploring a particular aspect of Christianity.
Books we have discussed:
Bibles Books of: Ruth; Jonah; Joshua; Galatians; Mark; James; Titus; selections from Kings & Chronicles; Romans.
Bible related books: How to be a bad christian but a good human being by Rev. Dave Tomlinson; The Golden Chord by Geraldine Brooks; Phoebe by Paula Gooder
